App Name Assignment via CSV & Strict Check

Automate app name assignment using your CSV file and a strict check option. Ensure accurate tracking and attribution for all your campaign traffic sources.

Updated this week

Overview

When you're running campaigns with multiple landing pages and traffic sources, it's important to track and attribute each visit to the correct app. A key part of this is assigning the right app name to each source — whether it’s a specific landing page or the default campaign URL.

While assigning app names through landing page IDs has worked smoothly, many advertisers noticed one gap:

The default campaign URL wasn't reflecting the app name from the uploaded CSV — when a row with a blank url_id was included.

To fix this, we’ve improved the App Name Assignment feature. You can now assign app names to both individual landing pages and the default URL, all from your CSV upload. And with the addition of a Strict App Name checkbox, you get more control over how app names are applied — either flexibly or with strict matching.

Use Case

This feature is helpful for advertisers or agencies who:

  • Manage campaigns with multiple landing pages and default URLs

  • Want to assign custom app names per source using a simple CSV file

  • Prefer either a flexible or strict app name mapping logic

Real Scenario

A client uploads the following CSV:

url_id

app_name

LP1

App One

LP2

App Two

(blank)

Default App

  • App names for LP1 and LP2 worked correctly.

  • But the default URL still showed the original campaign app name, instead of "Default App".

This article explains how to prevent that — by formatting your CSV correctly and using the Strict App Name checkbox as needed.

Benefits

  • Assign a custom app name to the default URL by adding a row with a blank url_id in your CSV.

  • Accurate attribution for all sources: Each landing page and the default URL will show the correct app name in your reports.

  • Flexible or strict mapping control: Use the checkbox to choose between fallback behavior or exact matching.

  • Fewer manual errors: Automatically maps app names across complex campaigns.

  • Clean and consistent reports: Avoid mismatches or duplicate names caused by manual errors.

CSV Format Requirements

Your CSV file should have two columns:

Column

Description

url_id

Landing page or source ID. Leave this blank to assign app name to default URL.

app_name

The app name to assign to that URL ID or the default URL.

Example CSV

url_id

app_name

LP1

App One

LP2

App Two

(blank)

Default App

How It Works & Where to Find the Setting

The behavior of app name assignment depends on whether the Strict App Name checkbox is enabled for the campaign.

Go to the Campaign Details Page in your panel. Scroll down to find the check the box labeled “Strict App Name” to enable strict mapping mode.

Once the checkbox is set, your uploaded CSV will be read accordingly.

When Strict App Name is Unchecked (Flexible Mode)

This mode allows for more flexibility. If an app name isn’t found for a given URL, the system assigns a random fallback name.

CSV Content

What Happens

No url_id column

All traffic (landing + default) → random app name

Only url_ids

Matching pages use CSV app names; others → random

Includes blank url_id

Default URL uses app name from that blank row

Best for: Large or dynamic campaigns where flexibility is preferred.

When Strict App Name is Checked (Strict Mode)

This mode is more controlled. Only URLs that are listed in the CSV will be assigned an app name — all others will be left blank.

CSV Content

What Happens

No url_id column

Default URL → uses app name from blank row; others → blank

Only url_ids

Matching pages use app names; others → blank

Includes blank url_id

Default URL → uses app name from blank row; unmatched → blank

Best for: Campaigns that require strict data validation and clean reporting.

Note:

If you want the default URL to have a custom app name, make sure to include a blank url_id row in your CSV.

Make sure your CSV has the correct headers and values before uploading.
