Blocking Duplicate Clicks for Accurate Tracking in Trackier

Learn how to prevent duplicate clicks at the campaign level, ensuring multiple clicks from the same user within a set period count as one."

Updated this week

Overview

Duplicate clicks occur when the same user clicks on a tracking link multiple times within a short period, inflating your click count and distorting campaign performance data. This article explains what duplicate clicks are, why blocking them matters, and how to configure the Duplicate Click Action setting at the campaign level in Trackier.

What Are Duplicate Clicks?

A duplicate click is any subsequent click on a tracking link from the same user within a defined session window. For example, if a user clicks on the same offer link three times within an hour, all three clicks are registered even though they represent a single user and a single intent.

Without duplicate click blocking, your click data becomes inflated, making it harder to measure true campaign performance, publisher quality, and conversion rates accurately.

Why Block Duplicate Clicks?

  • Prevent inflated click counts that skew your campaign performance data

  • Get a more accurate view of unique user traffic and publisher quality

  • Reduce the risk of paying publishers for repetitive, low-value clicks

  • Improve the reliability of your click-to-conversion rate reporting

  • Protect your campaigns from simple click fraud patterns

How Duplicate Click Detection Works

Trackier identifies duplicate clicks using cookies dropped on the user's browser. When a user clicks on a tracking link for the first time, Trackier places a cookie on their browser. If the same user clicks the same link again within the session duration you have set, Trackier recognizes it as a duplicate and takes the action you have defined.

Note: Duplicate click detection is cookie-based, which means it only works for users on the same browser and device. It will not catch duplicate clicks from users who clear their cookies, use a different browser, or switch devices between clicks.

Where to find the option?

  1. Go to Campaigns β†’ Manage Campaigns in your Trackier panel

  2. Open the specific campaign you want to configure

  3. Click Settings β†’ Edit

  4. In the Basic Settings section, locate the Duplicate Click Action option.

  5. Set the click duration in hours, this defines the session window during which a repeat click from the same user is considered a duplicate

  6. Choose what should happen with duplicate clicks from the dropdown:

    • Redirect to a Blank Page: The duplicate click lands on an empty page, effectively stopping the user from reaching the offer again.

    • Redirect to Fallback URL: The duplicate click is redirected to a fallback URL of your choice

  7. Save your settings.

Conclusion

Duplicate clicks are one of the most common sources of inaccurate tracking data in performance marketing campaigns. Left unchecked, they inflate click counts, distort publisher performance metrics, and make it harder to make informed optimization decisions.

By configuring the Duplicate Click Action setting in Trackier, you gain precise control over how repeat clicks from the same user are handled whether that means redirecting them to a blank page or routing them to a fallback URL.

Combined with the right session duration for your campaign type, this setting helps ensure that your click data reflects real user intent rather than noise.
